One Crucial Lesson I Learned About Curation
My recent experience from writing on Medium taught me a lesson about curation.
I’ve had lots of curated pieces that were total flops. On the other hand, I’ve had tons of undistributed ones that did exceptionally well.
Ironically, some of those pieces outperformed my curated pieces. And by far, they exceeded the number of reads of my curated articles published in bigger publications.
For example, this one article I wrote two weeks ago with a title “My first article has gone viral” is still racking views every day. And my guess the word “viral” is what makes readers go insane. On average, I’m getting anywhere between 10–20 reads per day on this one. I’m sure my fellow writers gleaned some inspiration from reading it.
So yes, any article you write has a potential for massive reads if it’s a popular topic and the headline is enticing. In that case, it can still do well without curation. Just my two cents.
