When writing on Medium, it’s important to stay on top of your progress and see how your stories are performing. That’s what the stats are for to give us that information.

After all, what’s not exciting about seeing your story gain massive traction right after you published it?

Many people depend on stats for inspiration to keep going and keep writing on this platform. It can be a great motivational push. Small wins and successes can inspire us to write more.

But stats can also be a trap.

If there were no such thing as the Stats feature on Medium, perhaps we writers wouldn’t fall into this trap. But it’s right there on our Medium page to haunt us every day. The truth is, you can’t avoid not looking at the stats. It’s too tempting not to look at them every day. Don’t tell me you don’t look at yours because I won’t believe you. The stats are just as pleasing to our eyes as a chocolate bar to our palate.
